Irish settlers the Heenan family arrived in Otago on the Mariner 1850 and took up residence in Dunedin’s North East Valley. Whilst Dennis Heenan, senior, cultivated the property and bred cattle, Mrs Johanna Heenan is remembered for the hospitality shown to tramps and travellers calling at the house. The couple had a large family of approximately 13 children.
