Draughtsman Robert Park MacGoun arrived in New Zealand from Glasgow in 1862. In 1877 he took up a position as the first county clerk for the Southland County Council. MacGoun remained Southland county clerk until 1906. As a painter he was known mainly for watercolour paintings of Invercargill and Bluff in the 1880s.
